Key Insurance Accounting Developments
Deliberations on the IASB's insurance contracts project look set to extend well into 2015, following an October meeting in which the Board did not discuss its model for participating contracts.
With the European CFO Forum expected to set out its proposals for an alternative model during an education session in November, a final standard will not be issued before mid-2015. Given an expected three-year lead time from publication to implementation, the new standard's effective date is likely to fall after the January 2018 effective date of IFRS 9 Financial Instruments.
