On Friday, June 16th, President Donald Trump announced a signed directive (National Security Presidential Memorandum on Strengthening the Policy of the United States Toward Cuba) outlining his posture on Cuba, reversing some of the policies of the last administration in connection with the island. Although Trump indicated that he was "completely" canceling Obama's Cuba policy, the change seems to be only a partial shift from Obama's policy. Diplomatic relations between the United States and Cuba, and their respective embassies, will remain open. Direct commercial flights and cruises from the U.S. will continue to operate and travelers will still be allowed to spend unlimited amounts of money there and import Cuban rum and cigars for personal purposes.
